The Banana-Kiwi Hybrid
Throughout the years there has been articles on social media claiming that you can create goods from scraps. Many people on Facebook believed that the “baniwi” could actually be a thing to grow by putting their flesh together. The first few days of the video being posted it was viewed by more than a million people and shared all around Facebook.
There was a video going around that shows steps on how to grow the banana and kiwi together. Many believed the video but I find the very suspicious. The video looked staged.
Unfortunately, the “baniwi” was unsuccessful and cannot be grown from scrap. Although banana’s and kiwi are both grown from trees, they are not able to be a hybrid fruit. The way the steps are described seem realistic but it is a perfect example of fake news even though it sounds too good to be true. It is a perfect example of fake news because it is proven that combining two fruits together is impossible.
This hybrid fruit is nearly impossible because they are not from the same species. Even though hybrid foods are possible the “baniwi” is one that is impossible. When the video came out, it seemed believable to so many people shared it because the steps seemed realistic.
When watching a video like that it is very crucial to look at the information that is being given to you. In order to believe a source it is important to check the facts that are being shown to you before spreading fake news. At the end of the viral video they did state it was an April’s fools prank!
